Daphni – Sad Piano House
Blog Summary:
You’d expect complete transparency or absolute irony when an artist names their track ‘Sad Piano House’. Operating under his Daphni alias, Dan Snaith delivers something more interesting – a title that started as a throwaway description and somehow became the perfect summary of what he’d created.
The track emerged from Snaith’s DJ sets last year, born from that peculiar creative space where artists make music specifically to test on dancefloors. Initially uncertain about its future, he sent it to Ben UFO, who started spinning it in clubs and radio shows. Once people began asking about “that sad piano house track,” the temporary title became permanent.
Snaith describes it as “piano house… but, you know, not that kind of piano house,” which is probably the most honest genre description we’ll hear this year. The track continues the thread from ‘Cloudy’ off his 2022 album Cherry, exploring those irresistible bendy piano lines that seem to hit differently when played in the proper context.
This marks Snaith’s first solo Daphni release since ‘Cherry’, following his recent collaboration ‘Unidos’ with Sofia Kourtesis. Released via his Jiaolong label, the track comes with a tongue-in-cheek visualizer featuring a looped image of a road leading to a sad-looking house on a piano keyboard.
